Yunxiao-Weihui Temple

Weihui Temple was also known as General Chen Temple. It is located in Xiangtang Village, Yunling Town, Yunxiao County. It was first built in the first year of Tang Sisheng (684 AD) and was renamed Weihui Temple in the third year of Song Huizong Zhenghe (1113 AD). It mainly deifies Chen Yuanguang, the "Kaizhang Saint King". It is revered as the Weihui Ancestral Temple at home and abroad. Chen Yuanguang is the Chen Saint King revered by the descendants of Kaizhang soldiers at home and abroad. His ancestral home is Guangzhou, Henan. At the age of 13, Chen Yuanguang followed his father, "General Guide" Chen Zheng, and led the Central Plains troops to march south to Fujian. In the second year of the Chuigong period of Empress Wu Zetian (686), he requested permission to establish a state capital on the bank of the Zhangjiang River in Yunxiao (now Xilin Village), which was under the jurisdiction of Zhangpu and Huai'en counties. He was the first governor of Zhangzhou. Later, he founded a provincial school, promoted agriculture and industry, and developed the economy, making Zhangzhou an important city in southern Fujian. This temple consists of three parts: the screen wall, the large courtyard and the temple body. In the center of the main hall, there is a wooden shrine, enshrining the statues of Chen Yuanguang and Mrs. Zhong; on the right is a shrine to Wei Ma, with a plaque hanging that reads "Heroine among Women", enshrining the statue of Wei Jing, the grandmother of Chen Yuanguang; on the left is a shrine to Xu Tianzheng, with a plaque hanging that reads "Contributions to Southern County" and a couplet that reads "Come together to inspire scholars and make a name for themselves in history, and work together to promote culture and benefit the common people."
