Jiangxi's most successful name change: From "Reservoir" to 5A Scenic Area

The most successful name change in Jiangxi is undoubtedly Lushan West Sea. Lushan West Sea was formerly known as Zhelin Reservoir, which was built in the late 1950s to intercept the Xiu River for a hydropower project. Due to the excellent natural environment around Zhelin Reservoir, tourism development began in 1999, and the Yunju Mountain-Zhelin Lake Scenic Area was established. However, due to transportation and other factors, tourism was not very successful. In 2011, the scenic area was renamed Lushan West Sea, using the Lushan brand to attract visitors. This move was indeed very effective. As the scenic area continued to upgrade, it became more and more popular. At the end of 2020, the scenic area was upgraded to a national 5A scenic area, becoming the second national 5A scenic area in Jiujiang. However, this also brought some criticism to Lushan, with some people complaining that Lushan was greedy, creating two 5A scenic areas from one mountain. In fact, Lushan West Sea has nothing to do with Lushan, as it is nearly 100 km away from the core scenic area of Lushan. It is only located to the west of Lushan. Some people think that renaming Zhelin Reservoir to Lushan West Sea is a good idea, as it can increase the scenic area's popularity, since both are in Jiujiang. Others think that the name change loses its original characteristics and should not rely on Lushan.
