Shanghai Moon’s China Xiamen Tolu Tour

📍Xiamen, Fujian, China ⏰2020.09 Autumn day. I went on a 2-night, 3-day trip to Toru with friends of various nationalities through a package tour. I first learned about Toru in Xiamen, China through the Korean entertainment show ‘New Journey to the West’. In the movie Mulan, Mulan is set to live in a house shaped like a Toru. Xiamen is a southern region of China, and we drove for about 3 hours from downtown Xiamen to enter the Toru area. Toru is a unique residential structure built since the Ming and Qing Dynasties to prevent outsiders from intruding and for families to live together. It is said that up to 900 family members lived together by building a high wall in a round or square shape. The owner of the accommodation we stayed in has also lived in the house for generations, I don’t know if it’s good or bad… I applied for a single room, but I was assigned to a special room with a 150-year-old bed.. At first, I was very embarrassed and scared when I opened the door, but I was satisfied because the other members were jealous.. For 2 nights and 3 days, I visited other large and famous toru, not ours, and I also looked into the lives of the rural elders who still live there, experienced how to make toru, and cooked and ate various Chinese foods.
