2 Minutes Guide to Xi'an
🗺️Destination Overview
Xi’an is best known for the Terracotta Army but it has much more to offer. Here are the top recommendations!
⛰️ Huashan Mountain
The stunning Mount Huashan has beautiful views along its 5 peaks, as you cross along the narrow and steep paths. It is a mid-difficulty hike, but definitely worth the effort. You should take the cablecars up and down the mountain.
Public transportation is available but taxi is more convenient (despite being a bit pricier).
⚔️ Terracotta Army
The display apparently is getting better with the years, as they continue to restore and display a mix of cavalry, infantry, archers and charioteers. The army was designed to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in his afterlife and was discovered by chance, by farmers trying to dig a well. While the crowds can get heavy, this impressive display of previously-coloured warriors is definitely worth the visit.
🕌 Great Mosque
Close to the Muslim Quarter, the Great Mosque displays an interesting mix of Chinese and Muslim architectural styles. The gardens are quiet and pretty, truly deserving a visit.
🥘Food
Xian has plenty of cheap food options, but you should start with:
- Head over to the Muslim Quarter for a wide display of street food, with special focus on mutton dishes
- Biang biang noodles are a must!!
- Shannxi Sandwich (Rou Jia Mo), a bun filled with braised pork
🏠Accommodation
1.Han Tang inn. Very quiet, nice hostel with decent-English-speaking staff.

Summer is the peak travel season, and my friends came to visit again! The Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Tang Paradise are must-visit places. This time, we found this restaurant at the foot of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda!
You can also make your own lacquer fan in the restaurant. Not only tourists, but also locals like me think it's a great souvenir.
It has been on the must-eat list for three consecutive years. It's the closest Shaanxi cuisine restaurant to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the world. You can also stay here. The view of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda from the observation deck is amazing!
🏠Run Shaanxi Cuisine·Yanta Chang'an (Tang Paradise Branch)
🛵Building E, North Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda

There are also many Xi'an specialties, such as Roujiamo, Guifei Lianggao, and Chang'an Brush Pastry. My friends also kept praising that Shaanxi cuisine is really 👍🏻
Xi'an is great, but I won't come back next time! I'm scared...
Xi'an 3-day 2-night travel guide: My real travel experience
Xi'an, if you plan to go, remember to bring light clothes and comfortable shoes, walking is an important part of the tour!
Day 1: Historical precipitation and cultural collision
My first stop in Xi'an was the Terracotta Army. This world-famous site is truly worthy of its reputation, it really shocked me! The opening hours are from 8am to 5pm, and the ticket price is around 150 yuan, but it's worth every penny.
Walking into the museum, it's like traveling back to over two thousand years ago, standing in front of rows of lifelike terracotta warriors, feeling the weight of history. It is recommended to come in the morning, when there are relatively fewer tourists, so you can better appreciate each detail. It is recommended to book tickets online in advance to avoid the hassle of queuing on site.
After visiting the Terracotta Army, I chose to go to Huaqing Palace. Not only is there beautiful scenery, but there are also rich historical stories. The ticket price for Huaqing Palace is around 100 yuan. I enjoyed a relaxing afternoon here, strolling through the ancient gardens, imagining the romantic stories of the Tang Dynasty emperors and concubines. In the evening, I tasted authentic Youpo Noodles at a nearby restaurant. The chewy noodles with spicy oil sauce are truly unforgettable!
Day 2: The charm of the ancient city
On the second day, I chose to visit the Xi'an City Wall. This ancient city wall is one of the most complete surviving city walls in China, and it is suitable for cycling. The rental fee is about 40 yuan. Cycling on the city wall, you can overlook the beautiful scenery of Xi'an city center and feel the perfect fusion of history and modernity.
At noon, my friends and I had a hearty lunch on Huimin Street. The mutton soup and meat sandwiches here are absolutely not to be missed! Especially the mutton soup, take a bite, the soup is thick and the meat is tender, intoxicating. Huimin Street is full of snacks, such as Xi'an Liangpi and peanut butter pancakes, each of which makes me unable to stop eating, it's simply a feast of food!
In the afternoon, I visited the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which is not only a landmark of Xi'an, but also has a long history of Buddhist culture. The opening hours of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda are from 8am to 6pm, and the ticket price is 50 yuan. Climb to the top of the pagoda and overlook the beautiful scenery of Xi'an, it is truly refreshing. In the evening, I took a walk in the Music Fountain Square near the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The fountain dances with the music, as if time has stopped for it.
Day 3: The intersection of culture and art
On the last day, I decided to go to the Shaanxi History Museum. The museum has a rich collection, showcasing the history and culture of Shaanxi. The museum is free to enter, but reservations are required in advance. It is recommended to book online, otherwise you may encounter queuing.
Here, I am deeply attracted by the exquisite ancient artifacts and the weight of history, especially the bronzeware of the Han Dynasty, which shows the glory of that era. After the tour, I enjoyed a simple lunch at the museum's cafe, the atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant.
In the afternoon, I finally went to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which is much less crowded than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, suitable for quietly enjoying the tranquility of the city. Standing in front of the pagoda, feeling the passage of time, I couldn't help but think about the wisdom of the ancients.
Travel Tips
1. Safety: Xi'an has good overall security, but in crowded places, you should still pay attention to your belongings, especially in bustling markets like Huimin Street.
2. Transportation: Public transportation in the city center is very convenient, with extensive subway coverage and convenient taxis.
3. Food: If you are sensitive to spicy food, you can ask in advance. Many snacks in Xi'an are very spicy.
4. Cultural etiquette: In some religious places, such as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Huaqing Palace, please keep quiet and respect local culture.
Personal experience sharing
Overall, this trip to Xi'an allowed me to experience the depth of history and the richness of food, and every attraction amazed me. What I remember most, however, are the unique local delicacies and the happy times shared with friends. Xi'an is not only the ancient capital in my heart, but also the paradise of my taste buds.
I hope my sharing can inspire those of you who are planning to visit Xi'an
vivienne_evelyn_blackwood Listen to me, use the money for the Bell and Drum Tower tickets to eat here!!
The per capita cost of the Halal Shaanxi-style hot pot is less than 100 yuan.
The location is particularly good, right opposite the Drum Tower. Take Subway Line 1 to the Bell Tower, or Line 6 to Guangji Street!
The meat portions here are particularly large~ I ordered three portions in one go and didn't finish them. The meat is not iced before cooking and does not shrink after cooking!
Dip it in chili oil and sesame paste~
A bite of Xiangmi will confuse a Shaanxi person
The open-air check-in platform looks good during the day and even better at night!
Direct access via Xi'an Metro Line 1. A great place to take the kids.

Catering information:
• There are commercial complexes nearby, with a variety of dining options to meet basic needs.
Special tips:
• For railway and train enthusiasts, it may not be perfect here, but for friends who like motorcycles and railway photography, this is a good choice.
Can someone from Xi'an explain this phenomenon? Everyone on the street has a box.
These green bags are really something.
From Sajinqiao on Muslim Street to Miaohou Street, then to Zheng Street and Chenghuang Temple, these are everywhere.
Curiosity got the better of me and I tried them.
✓ Mung bean cake
You can taste the rich mung bean flavor. It's soft and sweet but not greasy. It melts in your mouth. The red bean, jujube, and black sesame flavors are all great!
✓ Mung bean pie
You have to eat it while it's hot. The crust is crispy and crumbly, and every bite is full of filling.
Locals in Xi'an often buy them. The old brand is stable.
It's perfect for travelers to bring back as a gift.

Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an
I recently had the opportunity to visit the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, and it was truly a fascinating experience. The sheer scale and historical significance of the site are breathtaking. Thousands of life-sized soldiers, each with unique facial expressions and details, stand in their battle formations#xi , guarding the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. The museum is well-organized, with three main pits that house the warriors and other artifacts, including horses and chariots. Pit 1 is the largest and the most impressive, displaying the massive army in neat rows. The attention to detail in each figure is astonishing, and it’s hard to believe that this incredible archaeological discovery was made by chance in 1974.
#xi
The site also offers a wealth of information about the construction, burial practices, and the history of the Qin Dynasty. The exhibits are informative, though having a guide or audio tour would enhance the experience by providing deeper context.
The only downside is that it can get crowded, especially during peak tourist seasons. I’d recommend going early in the day to avoid the rush and to fully appreciate the site without feeling overwhelmed.
Overall, visiting the Terracotta Warriors is a must for anyone interested in history, archaeology, or Chinese culture. It’s a glimpse into ancient China that leaves a lasting impression.'an 'an

After three trips to Xi'an,
I have summarized this super detailed 3-day and 2-night guide.
Friends who want to come recently, hurry up and save it!
Especially friends departing from Chengdu, highly recommend 🚅, very convenient.
✔️Day1
Morning: Chengdu 🚅 Xi'an, arrive at the hotel at noon, start citywalk in the afternoon to check in at Xi'an Dazibao, and see the night view of the Bell Tower.
It is recommended to book a hotel near the Bell Tower, as it is very convenient to travel by subway. After arriving at the hotel at noon and resting for a while, start walking around to check in at various Xi'an Dazibao walls and landmarks.
After dinner, go to the fifth floor of Kaiyuan Mall to see the night view of the bustling Bell Tower.
✔️Day2
Guangren Temple - Big Wild Goose Pagoda - Xiangzi Temple - Yongning Gate City Wall - Great Tang All Day Mall
Be sure to get up early to go to Guangren Temple to take pictures of the red walls and white pagoda, as there are not many people at this time.
Next, go to Joy City. You don't need to enter the Big Wild Goose Pagoda; you can take photos with the pagoda from outside.
After lunch, it is recommended to go back to the hotel to rest for a while, and then come out for a citywalk in the afternoon.
Citywalk route: Xiangzi Temple Street ➡️ Defu Lane ➡️ Shuyuanmen, the scenery along the way is beautiful, with ancient walls and old trees complementing each other, giving a strong sense of history.
There are many people at Yongning Gate City Wall, and it is very hot, so it is recommended to go later to watch the sunset from the city wall.
✔️Day3
Leisurely museum tour: Anrenfang Ruins Exhibition Hall and Shaanxi Art Museum
If you want to understand the history of the ancient capital Chang'an, you must not miss the museums.
We went to the Anrenfang Ruins Exhibition Hall and the Shaanxi Art Museum. Each museum has its own merits. Personally, I prefer Anrenfang, as it is very photogenic, and the design inside is great. If I have the chance, I would like to visit the Xi'an Museum next time. Remember to make reservations in advance for the museums.
About accommodation:
It is recommended to choose a hotel near the Bell Tower first, as it is very convenient to go to the attractions.
About food:
Lamb paomo, biangbiang noodles, oil-splashed noodles, roujiamo... There are really too many delicious foods in Shaanxi, and they are all quite heavy in flavor!
Thank you for reading, see you next time 👋🏻
