Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Wuzhou, Guangxi.

From October 1921 to April of the following year, Dr. Sun Yat-sen stationed in Wuzhou three times in preparation for the Northern Expedition. After Sun Yat-sen passed away in Beijing in March 1925, the people of Wuzhou held a grand memorial ceremony. Subsequently, at the initiative of Mr. Li Jishen, funds were raised to build the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen's great contributions to the country and the nation. In early 1926, the foundation laying ceremony of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was held. In the summer of 1928, the ground was officially broken and the construction was completed in October 1930. The memorial hall is located on the top of Beishan and is connected to the square through large steps about 5 meters high. The square is decorated with geometric green spaces and plants, drawing on the gardening art of French classical gardens. The center of the square was originally a lotus pond, which was later changed to a memorial sculpture of Sun Yat-sen. In front of the square, there are steps about 200 meters long leading directly to the foot of the mountain. The main building of the memorial hall faces south and is symmetrical. It emphasizes the principle of the central axis as a whole. It is a commonly used design method for Chinese palaces and Western-style memorial squares, and makes clever use of the mountainous terrain. As a unique and popular architectural form, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Wuzhou City carries profound political symbolic significance. It is the earliest Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall built in China. From its site layout, building volume, and construction technology, it is an important building during the Republic of China. It is a public building with beautiful architectural form and well-preserved architectural archives, which has high research value and historical value. National key cultural relics protection unit. The pair of red sandstone lions at the entrance of the memorial hall are cultural relics of the Ming Dynasty and were moved from the Wuzhou City God Temple to be placed here.
