Strolling through the Former Site of Wuzhou Customs

A nationally protected historical site hidden within a residential complex. ​Built in 1918, it comprises seven Western-style buildings, including dormitories, office buildings, a club, and a training center. Covering an area of approximately 10,000 square meters, it is currently the best-preserved and largest customs architectural complex from the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period in Guangxi. PS: ​In 1897, the Qing government signed a treaty with Britain, officially opening Wuzhou as a trading port and establishing a customs house. The total value of import and export trade at Wuzhou Port increased from less than two million Kuping taels of silver at the beginning of its opening to over ten million Kuping taels of silver by 1911, a six-fold increase, accounting for over 80% of Guangxi's total import and export trade value.
