Huishan Ancient Town (Wuxi)

The Huishan Ancient Town scenic area, located at 53-1 Tingsongfang, Liangxi District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, covers an area of 3.5 square kilometers, with a core area of 1.09 square kilometers. It was formerly Wuxi Xihui Park and Huishan Old Street. In 2017, Xihui Park and Huishan Old Street merged to form the Huishan Ancient Town scenic area in Wuxi. The Huishan Ancient Town scenic area in Wuxi is divided into four tourist areas based on regional function: the cultural relics area, the Xihui scenic spot (Xihui Park), the historical and cultural district (Huishan Old Street), and the mountain forest conservation area (Huishan Mountain). The history of the cultural relics area can be traced back to Huishan Temple, built during the Northern and Southern Dynasties. During the Tang, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, gardens and ancestral halls were built next to the temple, forming Huishan Ancient Town. The Huishan Ancient Town scenic area is nestled between mountains and rivers, integrating ancestral hall culture, garden art, clay figurine culture, canal culture, religious culture, and Jiangnan food culture. Huishan Mountain, with its eastern foot located within the mountain forest conservation area of the Huishan Ancient Town scenic area, was formerly known as Lishan Mountain. It is a branch of the Tianmu Mountains in Zhejiang Province. According to "Lixi Notes," during the Jin Dynasty, the pioneering Zen master and Western Regions monk Huizhao came here to spread Buddhism. Later generations named the mountain after him, calling it Huishan Mountain. "Hui" and "Hui" are interchangeable, hence the name Huishan Mountain, which is known as the most beautiful mountain in Jiangnan. On January 7, 2020, the Huishan Ancient Town scenic area in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, was designated as a national 5A-level tourist attraction by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China.
