Liu Gong Island Jiawu War Exhibition Hall

The Jiawu War Exhibition Hall, established in 2008, was the final stop of my visit to Liu Gong Island. The First Sino-Japanese War (Jiawu War) holds profound significance in modern Chinese history, marking the complete defeat of the Beiyang Fleet. The Treaty of Shimonoseki was signed, resulting in the cession of Taiwan and a compensation of 130 million taels of silver. This war had a deep impact on China's modern history. The exhibition mainly displays weapons and equipment used by the Qing army at the time, as well as salvaged naval battle artifacts. The visit takes about an hour. Upon entering, the first thing you see is a map of the Qing army's defense layout in Weihaiwei. Next is the weapons exhibition area, showcasing early army machine guns, field cannons, pistols, and rifles. There are also automatic cannons and Japanese military swords. In the salvage section, you can see items like Japanese navy flashlights, warship batteries, and remnants and artifacts salvaged from Beiyang Navy warships. The scene restoration area features replicas and wax figures, displaying Beiyang Navy uniforms, daily life scenes, and even a Japanese naval officer's diary. Overall, it is a highly recommended visit.
