Tracing the History of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895

Liugong Island in Weihai is an important place in modern history, the Sino-Japanese War of 1895. The Qing government and Japan went to war over the Korean issue, with the main battlefields at the time being in Korea, Lushun and Liugong Island respectively. Liugong Island was the headquarters and fleet garrison port of the Beiyang Fleet in the late Qing Dynasty. The existing historical sites on the island were mainly built in the late Qing Dynasty and during the British Concession period. The Naval Office and the Sino-Japanese War Memorial will be shared separately later. There is still a navy stationed on the island. There are currently six Qing Dynasty coastal defense artillery batteries on Liugong Island in the outdoor scenic area on the island. The Naval Office, the ruins of the Weihai Naval Academy, and the replica of the Dingyuan warship. There is also the earliest naval dock, but it is currently a military facility and is not open to the public! Tourist attractions from the British Concession period include the British Navy Liugong Island Headquarters, the seawater desalination plant, the church, the former site of the British private shopping street, the Golf Museum (China's first golf course) and the former site of the British admiral's villa. A simple tour takes about 3 hours, and a detailed tour takes about 1 day.
