Wan Chai and Sai Kung street food: Vietnamese noodles and Banh Hoi are delicious!

Wan Chai has always been a go-to spot for Hong Kong foodies, especially with its hidden alleys filled with diverse cuisines. Among them, Clague Street is one of my favorite places to explore for good eats. This time, my friend and I visited a Vietnamese restaurant. The seating was quite comfortable, and the staff politely handed us the menu. 《 Hue-Style Vermicelli Soup $88 》 This dish includes slices of beef brisket, beef balls, and pork sausage. The beef bone broth is rich and flavorful without being overly salty. The vermicelli is smooth and springy, perfectly absorbing the soup's taste. The beef balls are juicy and bouncy, the pork sausage comes in generous slices, and the beef brisket is tender and not chewy. 《 Qingyuan Steamed Rice Rolls $65 》 The portion is particularly generous, making it a great choice for those with a smaller appetite during hot weather. The steamed rice rolls, paired with authentic fish sauce, are filled with rich stuffing and offer a satisfying texture. 《 Hanoi Tomato Crab Vermicelli $88 》 This dish is served with plenty of crab roe and crab meat on top, along with fresh tomato chunks, pork sausage, and crab meatballs, making it quite hearty. The broth has a subtle tomato aroma without being overly sour, making it very appetizing. The vermicelli is thin and absorbs the soup well, with every bite carrying the flavor of crab roe and crab meat—truly irresistible! The pork sausage is thick and chewy, while the crab meatballs are bouncy. Adding a squeeze of fresh lime juice enhances the overall flavor even more. 《 Grilled Chicken Skewers with Banh Hoi $92 》 Even though I was already full, I couldn't resist trying more! This dish comes with four skewers of grilled chicken, which are flavorful and perfectly cooked. The Banh Hoi, resembling "rice noodle cakes," is thin and springy, paired with crispy fried garlic slices and Vietnamese sweet-and-sour sauce—absolutely delicious! Pairing the meal with a refreshing drink like iced lime soda or Cendol ($12) is perfect for cooling off in the summer heat, adding a touch of freshness to the experience!
