That Luang | Pha That Luang

#VisitLaos Pha That Luang or Phra Chedi Loka Chulamani is an important religious site in Vientiane and the heart of Lao people nationwide. According to legend, Pha That Luang has a history of construction of thousands of years, just like Pha That Phanom in Thailand. It is also inextricably linked to the history of the lands on the right bank of the Mekong River. This place is considered an important symbol of Laos. The pagoda is 45 meters high and shaped like a lotus bud, which represents the teachings of the Lord Buddha. There are smaller pagodas on the second tier of the large pagoda, supporting all four sides. There are 30 pagodas called “Sammatingsabarami.” In these 30 small pagodas, the creators took gold and casted it into 30 small pagodas, each weighing 4 baht, and beat the gold into sheets shaped like palm leaves called “Lan Kham”, 30 sheets. Each sheet is as long as a fist (measure a cubit by making a fist, not from the tip of the finger; make a fist and extend your little finger).
