One of the most beautiful church in Vienna

#100waysoftravel Votivkirche Location: Rooseveltplatz 8, Vienna 1090 Austria For several years this church underwent maintenance works, which are not yet fully completed as of August 2023, but now the church is open and can be visited. The church is in neo-Gothic style, and it was built to thank God for saving the Emperor's life The idea of this church came to be when Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian wanted to celebrate his brother’s life, Emperor Franz Joseph. The emperor escaped an assignation attempt in 1853 and the Archduke wanted to celebrate that famous episode in history. The church today is in the Sigmund Freud Park. It has become our favorite church in Vienna—even over St. Stephen’s Cathedral. For one aspect, there are far fewer people visiting Votive Church. The high ceilings, arches, large organ and stain glass makes this church rather impressive. We thought, too, the plagues honoring German soldiers who died from this parish in WWI and WWII to be unique. If you have time, I don’t think you will be disappointed. And don’t miss the famous magnolia tree near the church
