#EuropeTravel #Venice #Italy #RialtoBridge One of the greatest feats of Renaissance civil engineering, this world-renowned bridge gracefully arches over the narrowest section of the Grand Canal, running through the heart of Venice. Since the 1100s, several bridges have served this location, connecting the important Rialto Market on the east side of the canal. However, many collapsed due to the sheer volume of crowds. The current stone bridge is the work of Antonio da Ponte and his nephew Antonio Contino. Similar to the earlier wooden bridges, it features two ramps, a row of small shops, and a movable center section to allow passage of larger ships. The path to the bridge is lined with shops, making the nighttime cityscape even more picturesque.
