Huigang Ancient Village in Tonglu, Zhejiang Province

Liu Bowen, a famous politician in the early Ming Dynasty, described Huigang as follows: "South of the village, three peaks of Huangyangjian pierce the sky, like guards standing at attention. To the east, the Dayuan and Xiaoyuan rivers meander, presenting an imperial aura of a dragon coiling and a phoenix soaring." He also inscribed a plaque with "Fenghui Gaogang," which is the origin of the village's name. Many people don't know how to pronounce Huigang Village at first glance. It's pronounced Huìgǎng. As an ancient village, it has more than 80 ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, mostly in the typical Hui style, which gives a sense of grandeur and elegance. Huigang Ancient Village not only has a long history and culture but also fresh natural landscapes. With a history of over 2,000 years, Huigang has accumulated a rich cultural heritage. Its ancient buildings are exceptionally well-preserved. In addition to the architectural culture, the ancients also made good use of water resources. Through ingenious design, they ensured balanced irrigation throughout Huigang, minimizing floods. By controlling the sluice gates, they could also raise the water level to wash the roads. Walking into the ancient village, you can see buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties along a north-south ancient street. The courtyards on both sides are scattered in an orderly manner, with black tiles and white walls, enclosed by high walls. The blue brick door covers, stone-carved transom windows, and wood-carved pillars are integrated with the buildings, creating an ancient charm. Many buildings, especially on corbels and beams, are carved with various patterns, mostly derived from traditional Chinese folk tales, depicting figures, landscapes, flowers, birds, and animals in rich and diverse forms. Huigang Ancient Village is listed as a second batch of Chinese Traditional Villages and a National 3A Scenic Spot.
