An Outstanding Example of Spanish Gothic Art

Exploring the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Toledo (Region) The history of this church dates back many centuries, but it wasn't until the 19th century that it existed as a Christian church. This church was actually built on the site of a Muslim mosque, and prior to that, it was a church during the reign of Visigothic King Reccared in the 6th century AD. In 1226, King Saint Ferdinand and the Archbishop began constructing the new church. Subsequently, fifteen small chapels in the cloister were completed one after another. By the year 1300, the nave of the transept was finished, but construction of the church continued over the next two centuries.
