Tiantang Temple, known as "Quediantang Zhaxi Dajilang" in Tibetan, means the auspicious revitalizing island of Pagoda Beach. It was first built in the reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty, more than 1,200 years ago. It was the first of the fourteen temples in Tianzhu. At its peak, there were thousands of monks. The remaining monks are known as the "Eight Hundred Monks in Paradise" and are famous in Tibetan areas for their strict discipline, numerous eminent monks, and large scale. The main buildings preserved and rebuilt include: Great Sutra Hall, Sakyamuni Hall, Kalachakra Hall, Buddhist Sutra Pavilion, Little Potala Palace, Thousand Buddha Hall, Manjusri Hall, Dakini Palace, Manikang, etc. In the Thousand Buddha Hall, there is the world's largest wooden seated statue of Master Tsongkhapa, 23 meters high. Tiantang Temple is located in Tiantang Town, Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County, Wuwei City, Gansu Province. It is 199 kilometers away from Wuwei City and 218 kilometers away from Lanzhou City. It takes about three hours to drive through mountain roads, so drive carefully. Tickets are 25 yuan, free for those over 65. There is no tour guide.
