THE PHOENIX MOSQUE 🕌 HANGZHOU

The Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque, formerly named as Libaisi (Mosque for Pray), Zhenjiaosi (Mosque of True Religion), Futuitang (Eluhui Mosque), takes its name from its phoenix-like architectural complex. As the most ancient and well-preserved building in Hangzhou, this mosque is one of the four most renowned ancient mosques in China. Established as early as in the Tang Dynasty, it was ruined in the third Sintai year of the Southern Song Dynasty (1203). In the 18 year of the Yuan Dynasty (1281), the mosque was rebuilt by an imperial edict from the Emperor Kublai Khan and has been renovated and extended many times through the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and thus gradually gained a size of grandness. In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), more than half of such historic sites as the Entrance Screen, the Moon Watching Pavlion and the Long Corridor, etc. were pulled down to make room for the construction of the Zhongshan Road. After the People's Republic of China was founded, the people's government allocated funds many times to renovate the Phoenix Mosque, which was ranked among the Historical and Cultural Relies under Protection by Zhejiang Province in 1961. In 2001, the Phoenix Mosque was ranked as an Important Heritage Site under State Protection. In 2009, the People's Government of Hang.hou City allocated a fund to rebuild the Moon Watching Pavilion for the function improvement of the Phoenix Mosque. #tripblazers #bucketlistreboot #mytripvlog
