Mount Azuyama 🇯🇵

#traveldiaries Mount Azumaya (四阿山, Azumaya-san) is a stratovolcano in Japan. The 2,354-metre-high (7,723 ft) peak lies on the border of Nagano Prefecture and Gunma Prefecture. Located on the border between Nagano and Gunma prefectures, it is also called Azumayama or Azumayama on the Gunma side. Its gentle slope makes it look like a roof from any angle. It is an old volcano (not currently active), and the Yonako Daibakufu, one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls, located in the valley on the north side, is one of its remnants. The main course to the summit starts at Sugadaira Plateau on the western foot of the mountain. Passing through Sugadaira Ranch (paid entry), one heads for Mount Azumaya and the neighboring Mt. Nekodake. In the saddle between Mount Azumaya and Mt. Nekodake is a wide grassland known as O-sukima, with a view reminiscent of the European Alps. The shortest course to the summit takes about two hours from the gondola summit station at Palcol Tsumagoi Ski Resort on the Gunma side. #100waysoftravel #japan
