Mati Temple is located in Mati Tibetan Township, Sunan Yugu Autonomous County, 60 kilometers away from Zhangye. It was built in the Northern Liang Dynasty. It is said that when the heavenly horse descended to the world, it left a horseshoe on a rock here, leaving a hoof print, and the temple was named after it. Mati Temple is now a large group of grottoes. It includes seven small grotto groups, stretching nearly 30 kilometers, with Qianfodong, North and South Mati Temple, Shangzhongxia Guanyin Cave and Jinta Temple. Among them, the most famous is the 33-day grotto of Beisi, which was excavated from the Northern Dynasty and lasted for hundreds of years. It is on the red sand rock wall, with a large bottom and a small top in the shape of a pagoda. There are 7 layers and 21 caves, and there is only one "Z" shaped internal passage up and down, and the corridor is winding.
