Located in the Joo Chiat district, right next to the famous colorful houses, this museum offers incredible value. It houses a vast collection of Peranakan furniture and porcelain. There are various ways to enjoy your visit, including renting Peranakan costumes for photos and booking an afternoon tea featuring Peranakan pastries. Best of all, the guided tour is fantastic, sharing insights into Peranakan customs, many of which I heard for the first time. 📷📷📷📷 For example, the small "love pot" is used to hold tangyuan (glutinous rice balls). On the night of a Peranakan wedding, a pot of tangyuan is left out, and the next day, the number of worms found in it signifies the number of children the couple will have. Another example is placing a cage with a rooster and a hen under the bed. The first bird to escape predicts the gender of the child (of course, little tricks like tying the hen's leg are sometimes employed). Also, when admiring beaded embroidery, you shouldn't just look at the front but also turn it over to examine the stitches on the back. In short, it's a fascinating visit, highly recommended. Their cultural and creative products are also worth checking out.
