National Ainu Museum: A Core Destination to Experience Ainu Culture in Shiraoi

Located on the shores of Lake Poroto in Shiraoi Town, Hokkaido, the National Ainu Museum (Upopoy) opened in 2020 as Japan's first national museum dedicated to Ainu culture. It serves as a key hub for promoting the concept of "ethnic coexistence." The name "Upopoy" means "singing together" in the Ainu language, symbolizing exchange and coexistence.
