Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai in Shanghai is Prada’s first standalone dining space in Asia, directly operated by Prada. True to the collaboration with director Wong Kar-wai, the building itself is designed like a movie set, so from the moment you step inside, you naturally get immersed in the atmosphere. The interior and layout are perfectly Prada, with sophisticated details that are flawless and stand out. This time, due to time constraints, I visited the café at 10 a.m., and if you go right when it opens, there are hardly any people, making it perfect for quietly and leisurely taking photos. The drinks and desserts were overall satisfying, and I especially enjoyed the chocolate cake. The prices are somewhat on the higher side, but considering the value of the space, the ambiance, and the service, it was completely reasonable. Reservations were easy to make through the WeChat mini program, and the competition wasn’t as fierce as expected, so booking 2-3 days in advance was usually enough. English was well provided, making it accessible, and although a 300 yuan deposit is required upon entry, it is immediately refunded at check-in, so there was no inconvenience. There was a small incident during my visit, but the staff responded quickly and politely, which actually impressed me even more. It gave me a sense of trust that this space is operated by the brand itself, and I was able to experience service and atmosphere worthy of the Prada name. It made me want to come back with my parents next time, and if I have friends visiting Shanghai, this is definitely a place I want to bring them to. In short, it was a space that remains ‘not just a café but an experience.’ I especially recommend it to those who love Wong Kar-wai’s sensibility. You’ll truly feel like the protagonist in a movie.
