A Hidden Gem in Shanghai: Enjoy Drinks With a Stunning 180-Degree River View

A friend from Beijing always stays at this hotel when visiting Shanghai. She's told me about all its advantages: ✔️ Recently renovated with a grand, stylish, and minimalist design. ✔️ Prime location near the confluence of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek. ✔️ Offers a super wide-angle view of the river, with panoramic views of both banks. ❗️ The key is: it's not overrun by tourists, making it quiet, comfortable, and relaxing! 🏨 This hidden gem is the Grand Hyatt Shanghai On The Bund. I recently had a small gathering with friends here. ✅ We started with dinner at Aroma on the 2nd floor. They offer a buffet on weekends, but surprisingly, it transforms into a cozy bistro on weekday evenings! 💰 For larger groups, I recommend the bistro's four-person meal, which costs less than CNY 100 per person. The value is unbeatable! ♨️ The menu features local Shanghai flavors and fresh seafood from the East China Sea. Here are some of my favorites: 1️⃣ Shanghai Plum-Flavored Drunken Shrimp: Refreshing and appetizing. 2️⃣ Squid stir-fried with lemongrass and sambal sauce: A hint of Southeast Asian flavor that goes perfectly with drinks. 3️⃣ The yakitori platter was a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect to find such excellent Japanese yakitori in a luxury hotel's all-day dining restaurant. The chicken skewers, in particular, were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with juicy flavor. 4️⃣ I also loved the braised beef short ribs with chestnuts in a Shanghai-style sauce. The short ribs were tender, the chestnuts were soft and sweet, and the rich, savory sauce made it even more delicious. It was so satisfying to eat big bites of meat. 5️⃣ The staple foods, shrimp roe Yangchun noodles and fresh meat handmade silk net pot stickers, were especially satisfying. 6️⃣ I ordered a large plate of crayfish à la carte, which was said to be Wuhan-style. It was a little spicy and felt richer than the usual flavors like Thirteen Spices. The shrimp meat was also very fresh and plump. 7️⃣ The set meal also includes four drinks, with a choice of 🍺 beer, soft drinks, or juice. ✅ As a result, everyone got a little tipsy. Not wanting the night to end, we headed to the very trendy Vue Bar on the hotel's 32nd floor. It's usually very quiet and comfortable here, and you can always find a seat by the window with a river view. There are also performances on weekends, so those who like a lively atmosphere can have a great time. 🌃 We took the spiral staircase to the 33rd floor, where the 180-degree outdoor terrace offers a stunning view of Pudong's skyline. From this angle, you can also see the Bund's curved bay, with panoramic views of both sides of the river. Finally, we said our reluctant goodbyes and walked along the Suzhou Creek to the subway station. The breeze was lovely, and I captured a great view of the Zhapu Road Bridge. The architecture of the General Post Office Building was reflected in the shimmering waters of the Suzhou Creek.
