Shangsheng • New Place is located in the Xinhua Road Historical and Cultural Area, which is renowned as the 'First Garden Road of Shanghai.' 100 years ago, this was the Columbia Country Club, a place for expatriates to relax and vacation; in 1953, it became the Shanghai Institute of Biological Products (referred to as 'Shangsheng Institute'), witnessing the architectural history of industrial transformation in New China; today, it is a famous new landmark in Shanghai, an open cultural and artistic living circle. Must-visit spots here include: Sun Ke Villa: It is a classic work of the world-renowned architect Laszlo Hudec in Shanghai, a hybrid building that combines various styles such as Spanish and Italian Renaissance. Built in 1931, it is one of the first 'Outstanding Historical Buildings of Shanghai.' Navy Club's Internet-famous Swimming Pool: This is one of the few remaining British-style mosaic-tiled pools. The two-story supporting buildings around the pool, renovated in the 1980s, have also been preserved. Today, the Internet-famous pool has become the center of vitality and fashion for the entire block. Tsutaya Bookstore: Located at the Columbia Country Club, this was once a social and leisure place for expatriates in Shanghai. Designed by American architect Elliott Hazzard and completed in 1924, it is a 96-year-old building. Now reborn as the first Tsutaya Bookstore in Shanghai, it combines the unique exterior and interior of the old building, injecting it with vibrant life.
