Shanghai Hyatt Centric Hotel - Red Design

Carefully crafted by Red Design, the Shanghai Hyatt Centric Hotel has become Asia's premier lifestyle hotel. The project is located next to the landmark Zhongshan Park in Shanghai, a park that was a bustling stage for the convergence of Eastern and Western cultures in the 1920s, attracting numerous magnates and social elites. 👨🏻‍🎨 Drawing inspiration from the park's prosperous past, the designer meticulously transformed the hotel into a vibrant and luxurious oasis. The hotel's original structure is unique, with its low ceiling height and narrow spaces serving as a canvas for design ingenuity. Utilizing its peculiarities, the hotel has been carefully sculpted into a secret bar-style club hidden behind a refined tailor shop, cleverly recreating the unique mystique of 1920s Shanghai. 👗 Red Design redesigned the ground floor arrival hall into a vintage tailor shop filled with modern elements. The design is inspired by the high-end stores around Zhongshan Park, combining historical heritage with modern aesthetics. Every rich detail seems to beckon guests, inviting them into this charming space. The wall decor is made of thousands of pieces of blue-green fabric, complemented by wall hangings showcasing traditional Chinese qipao fabrics, blending classical charm with modern design. 👔 The curved glass foyer at the main entrance is particularly striking, featuring two abstract acrylic sculptures. One symbolizes the sophistication and uprightness of modern suits, while the other represents the elegance and grace of the qipao. They stand quietly, as if narrating the fusion and collision of Eastern and Western cultures. A hidden passage to the club is concealed in the facade design of the tailor shop. 🔻 Ascending to the second floor, you arrive at the main hall, where a red lacquered reception desk catches your eye. The layout continues the club theme, making you feel as if you are in an English manor, with various dining and social spaces carefully divided into different areas. 🔷 The most striking focal point in the reception area is undoubtedly a dynamic art installation named 'Jinxia.' Composed of interwoven fabric strips, it moves via motors, symbolizing the busy and vibrant traffic and crowds of Shanghai, vividly illustrating the city's hustle and vitality. 🥃 The hotel's bar, named Scenario 1555, is a space of contrasting celebration, designed to immerse guests in a world where old Shanghai charm intertwines with modern urban prosperity. It presents a juxtaposition of the old and new, reflecting Shanghai's dual identity as a center of European classical elegance and cutting-edge modernity.
