Hongshou Fang: A commercial market in the Shikumen alleys

Hongshou Fang, located at No. 1143 Xikang Road, Putuo District, Shanghai, was once a famous commercial hub in the west of Shanghai. The Shikumen architectural complex there originated from the early to mid-20th century, initially built as a lane-style residence by the businessman Pan Shouren in 1933. In 1926, a 'bell tower' was constructed at this site, which was demolished in 1958. For the old residents of Shanghai, this place was colloquially known as 'Da Ziming Zhong'. Hongshou Fang belongs to the Changshou Road Da Ziming Zhong commercial circle, an important business center in the west of Shanghai. Today, the newly transformed Hongshou Fang at its original location not only retains the original structure of the Shikumen alleys but also infuses modern life's 'exquisite everyday atmosphere', bringing a 'small and beautiful' consumption experience to the surrounding residents. It has become an urban sustainable community that integrates office, entertainment, living, and leisure, a market with Shanghai-style characteristics, a mini-version of 'Xintiandi', and also a new popular landmark for social media check-ins in the west of Shanghai.
