Baoshan Temple, a millennium heritage

It is one of the several famous Buddhist temples in Shanghai, renowned far and wide. The temple was originally established during the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty by the gentry Tang Yuexuan, who converted his residence into the temple. It was renovated in the 27th year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty. The temple now covers an area of 17.3 mu, with a construction area of 6,000 square meters. ✅Must experience: The total construction area of the temple is about 12,000 square meters, of which the religious core area occupies 20 mu. The architecture includes the Mountain Gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Bell Tower, the Drum Tower, the Mahavira Hall, the Guanyin Hall, the Medicine Buddha Hall, the Sangharama Hall, the Ancestral Hall, the Sutra Tower, the Dharma Hall, the Abbot's Quarters, the Dining Hall, the Monks' Quarters, and more. According to the plan, a supporting garden will also be built on the east side of the temple, which will include pagodas, pavilions, towers, platforms, waterside pavilions, pools, and archways.
