Sheshan National Forest Park in Songjiang is a great place for hiking in Shanghai

Sheshan is divided into East Sheshan and West Sheshan National Forest Parks, separated by the Waigang Pine Highway. Neither of these mountains is very high; East Sheshan is only about 70 meters and West Sheshan is about 100 meters at its highest point, so if you hike briskly, it won't take half an hour to complete the journey. The main attraction is to enjoy the scenery along the way. East and West Sheshan each have their own characteristics; East Sheshan has dense bamboo forests, quiet and tranquil, especially suitable for hiking and aerobic exercise with fewer people and beautiful scenery, while West Sheshan has many more famous buildings and attracts more visitors. The recommended route for touring East Sheshan is to walk from Baishishan Pavilion—South Peak—Qianlong Ancient Trail—Long Pavilion—Qilong Weir—West Gate. As soon as you enter the gate, you can see the long hiking trail. West Sheshan has more cultural and natural landscapes, including the famous observatory and Catholic church. The Sheshan National Forest Park is open from 8:00 to 16:00. Admission is completely free and no reservation is needed. For transportation, take the subway line 9 to Sheshan Station, then transfer to the Songjiang 94 bus to Sheshan National Forest Park, and you will arrive at the East Sheshan gate. You can tour East Sheshan first, and after coming down the mountain, the West Sheshan is right across the street. For those driving, parking at the East Sheshan Park parking lot costs five yuan per hour, and after exiting, turn left to go hiking.
