No.79 🇱🇻 Riga Riga, the largest city in the Baltic States, is a city where medieval vestiges and Art Nouveau architecture thrive. Walking through the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, I was able to experience the layers of history at once, with the splendor of the Hanseatic League and remnants of the Soviet era intersecting. 🌍 What I Did & My Impressions 1. Strolling Through Riga's Old Town 🏘️ I leisurely strolled through the Old Town, lined with medieval walls, churches, and colorful buildings. The atmosphere changed with each small alleyway, giving me the unique European feeling of "getting lost." 2. The Three Brothers (Trīs brāļi) 🏠🏠🏠 Riga's oldest residential complex, consisting of three houses built between the 15th and 17th centuries. With architectural styles ranging from the Middle Ages to Baroque and Renaissance, this area felt like a condensed version of Riga's history. 3. Central Market 🥖🐟 A huge market housed in a former zeppelin hangar. While sampling black bread, smoked fish, and fruit, I enjoyed the atmosphere of a place of daily life rather than a tourist spot. 4. Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum 🌿🏡 A vast open-air museum nestled beside forests and lakes. Traditional wooden houses, churches, windmills, and more have been relocated, recreating the atmosphere of ancient times. It was a special time to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and quietly experience the original Latvian landscape. 🍴 What I Ate ・Smoked Salmon 🐟: Fatty and fragrant, it was delicious with black bread. ・Carbonade 🥩: Latvian-style pork cutlet. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, it's simple yet satisfying. ✅ The Central Market is bustling in the morning, so I recommend it. ✅ The Ethnographic Museum is accessible by bus from the city center. Spend a relaxing half-day there. ✅ The Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum takes about two hours, so go early if you have the time.
