A Peaceful Break at Forbury Gardens

Location: Forbury Road, Reading RG1 3HW, United Kingdom Right in the heart of Reading, I found a perfect little escape—Forbury Gardens. After walking through the town centre, it was so refreshing to step into this beautifully kept Victorian park. The moment I entered, the sound of traffic faded, replaced by birdsong and the splash of a central fountain. I took my time strolling past flower beds and under shady trees. Locals were sitting on benches with coffee, reading books, or just enjoying the calm. The highlight, of course, is the Maiwand Lion, a huge stone statue that quietly watches over the garden. It’s impressive up close, especially with the abbey ruins just behind it. What I liked most was the peaceful atmosphere—it felt like a spot where time slows down for a while. Whether you’re passing through or need a quiet moment in the day, Forbury Gardens is well worth a visit.
