It is assumed that this temple was built since the Ayutthaya period as the capital. It was originally called "Wat Chang Lom" because in the past, the west side of the temple was next to the Mae Klong River. It was a barn for holding government elephants. The herd of elephants used it to walk through to drink water and bathe in the Mae Klong River regularly. One day, an elephant accidentally fell into the mud, so the villagers called this place "Chang Lom". .. Later, around 2475, His Royal Highness Prince Vajirananavarorasa visited the temple and saw that the temple's name was not auspicious, so he renamed it "Wat Chong Lom". ..
