Rabat – Morocco’s Elegant Capital

Unlike the bustling souks of Marrakesh or the ancient streets of Fes, Rabat offers a more modern and relaxed side of Morocco. As the political and administrative capital, the city blends history, coastal beauty, and contemporary charm, making it a refreshing stop on any Moroccan journey. Kasbah of the Udayas – A Seaside Fortress One of Rabat’s most picturesque spots is the Kasbah of the Udayas, a blue-and-white-washed fortress overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Walking through its narrow streets, I felt a touch of Chefchaouen’s charm, but with stunning ocean views. The Andalusian Gardens inside the kasbah provide a peaceful escape. Hassan Tower & Mausoleum of Mohammed V Rabat is home to one of Morocco’s most iconic landmarks, the Hassan Tower. Originally intended to be the tallest minaret in the world, it was left unfinished in the 12th century, but its massive red sandstone columns still stand as a reminder of its grand ambition. Nearby, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, with its intricate white marble and golden details, is a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture. The Modern Side of Rabat Unlike many Moroccan cities, Rabat has a modern and European feel, with wide boulevards, stylish cafés, and a well-developed tram system. The Marina along the Bou Regreg River is perfect for a sunset stroll, offering views of neighboring Salé and the kasbah. Final Thoughts Rabat may not be as chaotic as Fes or as touristy as Marrakesh, but it has its own elegance and charm. Whether exploring historic landmarks, enjoying ocean views, or experiencing its relaxed atmosphere, Rabat is a city that offers the perfect balance between Morocco’s past and present. #celebrateit #morocco #travel #beachlife
