Hassan Tower in Rabat, Morocco

The tower was commissioned in 1195 by Abu Yusuf Yaqpur al-Mansur, the third caliph of the Almohad Caliphate, with the intention of making it the largest mosque in the world. Mansur died in 1199, leaving half of the mosque unfinished, and later generations did not complete it for him, so it became the Hassan Tower. In 1755, the Lisbon earthquake in Portugal destroyed half of it. The local people believed that this was a sign from Allah, so they did not rebuild it on the original site.
