Rainbow Mountain in Peru

The Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca or Arcoiris) is located in the Andes above 5,000 meters in elevation near Cuzco, Peru. The local Quechua people call it Montaña de Siete Colores, which means 'Mountain of Seven Colors', and the entire mountainside looks as if it were made of rainbows, becoming increasingly popular with tourists in recent years. Its slopes and summits are dyed with intense colors such as crimson, turquoise, lavender, and gold, presenting a vivid multicolored striped pattern like a rainbow. The colorful rock strata are distinct, with candy colors that would delight any girl's heart, as if God had spilled his palette here. Those with a basic understanding of geography should know that this phenomenon is known as the Danxia landform. Red sedimentary rocks deposited inland, after long periods of erosion by water and weathering, have created today's beautiful and unique landscape. Although Rainbow Mountain is breathtakingly beautiful, it is absolutely 100% natural. The total elevation of Rainbow Mountain exceeds 5,200 meters, and it is a rare example of a 'Danxia landform', which simply means that the red rocks deposited inland have undergone millions of years of geological changes and water erosion to create the geological phenomena we see today. In addition to its unique beauty, Rainbow Mountain has another special feature: no plants grow on it, leaving it bare. Covered by ice and snow throughout the year, it was not until 2015, due to global warming, that the mountain's peak, previously blanketed in snow, became exposed due to the melting of ice and snow in recent years. The melting of the glaciers and snow on the high mountains has led to its discovery and rapid rise as a popular tourist spot in Peru.
