Train Journey Through Poland: Poznań, Gniezno & Malbork

#springwander Traveling by train through Poland is a fantastic way to explore the country’s rich history and diverse landscapes. My journey took me from the lively city of Poznań to the historic town of Gniezno and finally to the majestic Malbork Castle. Starting in Poznań, I was immediately drawn to the colorful Old Market Square, where each townhouse seemed like a painting. Watching the mechanical goats at the Town Hall strike noon was a fun tradition to witness. I also visited Ostrów Tumski, where Poland's first rulers were baptized, making it a key site in the country’s history. A short train ride brought me to Gniezno, Poland’s first capital and an important spiritual center. The highlight was the stunning Gniezno Cathedral, home to the legendary bronze doors depicting the life of St. Adalbert. The peaceful atmosphere of the town made it a perfect place to slow down and appreciate Poland’s early history. The final stop, Malbork, was the most spectacular. As the train approached, the massive red-brick fortress of Malbork Castle dominated the skyline. Exploring its vast halls, courtyards, and medieval artifacts was like stepping back in time.
