Grandfather Beach

Me and my girlfriend rented a motor and explored most of the Dawei Peninsula beaches in 2016. Grandfather Beach was one of our favorites and at the time was difficult to get to. We went over a rough rocky dirt road North of the nearby local village and found ourselves on a beautiful white sand beach. We had it all to ourselves for the afternoon and it was quite idyllic. I have been living in Thailand and coming to the region for over 20 years and have seen how places like this slowly get popular, exploited, crowded, and then ruined. For example, many Thailand beaches and islands today are overrun by Chinese tour groups and over commercialized. Also once quiet and local places like Sihanoukville in Cambodia are now being invaded and destroyed by greedy foreign business people. So now is the time to get to Dawei and see this special place and explore these lovely quiet beaches. Right now only the savvy adventure travelers know about this place. I only saw maybe 3 or 4 other foreigners our entire time here. I am itching to get back to this area as soon as possible. My fear is that in 5-10 years time, this place will also get developed and ruined. Also I would recommend skipping Maungmagan beach as it is somewhat dirty and not very scenic compared to the other beaches. #thingstodo#familytravel
