Tucked into the country’s southwestern tip, Cornwall is as much about wild beauty as it is about warmth and soul. I spent my days walking along the South West Coast Path, where every turn revealed a new postcard view — from Botallack’s clifftop engine houses to the turquoise coves of Kynance. The sun played off the water, and the salty breeze was laced with wildflower scents. One of my favourite stops was St Ives, where light bounces off whitewashed cottages and art galleries line the cobbled streets. I watched surfers catching waves at Porthmeor Beach, then tucked into fresh crab sandwiches overlooking the harbour. Further west, Land’s End felt like the edge of the world — waves crashing below and seabirds wheeling above. Inland, the Lost Gardens of Heligan offered a moment of peace, moss-covered paths winding through ancient trees and lush ferns. What stayed with me? The feeling of openness, the stories carved into stone and sea, and the genuine hospitality from locals proud of their rugged paradise. Best time to visit: May to September, for mild weather, blooming coastlines, and swimmable seas. Getting there: Accessible by car or train from London (approx. 5 hours).
