Early in the morning, we visited Wat Mahathat. The peaceful and serene atmosphere was complemented by the famous Buddha tree, where the Buddha's head is entwined within the roots of a banyan tree. The grounds of Wat Mahathat are filled with the ruins of chedis, prangs, and numerous Buddha statues, reflecting the grandeur of Ayutthaya's past. Wat Mahathat played a crucial role in the religious and political life of the Ayutthaya Kingdom until it was heavily damaged during the Burmese invasion in 1767.
