Perast: a city that seems drawn

#hellohalloween Perast feels unreal. Narrow embankments, Baroque palaces, bell towers, boats at stone piers—and a silence broken only by the chiming of clocks and the lapping of water. It seems as if time stood still here somewhere in the 18th century, when the city was the main seaport of the Adriatic. Now Perast is just one street along the sea, but what a street it is. The terraces offer views of the islands of Our Lady of the Rocks and Sveti Djordje, and in the evening, the entire bay is painted in golden-pink hues. 📍 Where it's located: Boka Kotorska Bay, between Kotor and Risan, Montenegro. 🕐 When to go: May to October. Spring is quiet, and in summer, the city comes alive, but still retains its tranquility. ⸻ How to get to Perast 🚗 By car: From Kotor – just 15 km, about a 20-minute drive along the road along the bay. Parking is available at the entrance to the town (cars are not allowed into Perast itself). 🚌 By bus: Intercity buses from Kotor to Risan or Herceg Novi stop in Perast. A ticket costs about €2–3, and the journey takes 20–30 minutes. 🚕 By taxi or boat: From Kotor, you can take a boat across the bay – €10–15 per ride, a 20-minute journey. ⸻ What to see: — Gospa od Škrpjela (Our Lady of the Rocks) island – boats go there directly from the pier. — The bell tower of the Church of St. Nicholas offers the best view of the town. — A walk along the embankment takes 15 minutes, but you’ll want to walk for hours.
