Chengdu Surroundings: "Cambodia" Just an Hour Away

Pengzhou is a place of outstanding people and is only an hour's drive from Chengdu. You can also take a high-speed train from Xipu to Pengzhou for just CNY 10! In the past, when driving to Pengxian (now renamed Pengzhou), you had to go through a bridge tunnel when entering the city, and a sculpture holding a pair of mallets would welcome you as you exited the tunnel. So, the Pengxian saying goes, "When you arrive in Pengxian, first lower your head, then go through the tunnel, and finally get hit by a mallet." Pengzhou is the vegetable supply base for Chengdu, and the nearby Mengyang Ancient Town has a large vegetable wholesale market. You can also head north along Beixing Avenue to visit Mengyang. Pengzhou is also famous for its food, such as Jiuchi goose intestines, Jiuchi cured duck, Juntun guokui, pork intestines, and buckwheat noodles. Outside Longxing Temple, there are several guokui shops with long queues. The Longxing Temple Pagoda has a unique design, standing at 9x9, 81 meters tall, in the style of an Indian Vajra Pagoda, majestic and solemn. It is said to be the tallest pagoda in East Asia. Climbing to the top is exhausting, but if you're not afraid of heights, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Pengzhou. There are prayer wheels around the pagoda, and the signature of Panchen Lama is prominently displayed, which explains why there are so many Tibetans at Longxing Temple. During the New Year, the God of Wealth Hall is the most popular. At the back, the Sutra Library has a plaque inscribed by Shi Yongxin, the abbot of Shaolin Temple, and his disciples. Longxing Temple is famous for three things: First, it is one of the 19 pagodas in China that house the true relics of Shakyamuni Buddha, which explains the strong incense offerings. Second, the pagoda's design is unique, and such Indian Vajra Pagoda-style architecture is rare in the Central Plains, making it reminiscent of Angkor Wat. Third, the peaceful liberation of Chengdu was announced at the Sutra Library of Longxing Temple, where Liu Wenhui, the King of Southwest China, Deng Xihou, and Pan Wenhua declared their uprising under the guidance of the temple's abbot, Master Nenghai.
