Exploring the Wai'an Underground Bunker: A Journey Through Time

Visiting Xiyu in Penghu is not just about enjoying the sea and the breeze; there are many historical footprints worth exploring. This time, I specifically visited the Wai'an Underground Bunker, a site rich in history and a touch of mystery. The entrance to the bunker is not very obvious, so you need to carefully follow the signs to find it. Once inside, you'll discover that the entire passageway is carved out of the mountain, creating a cool and slightly damp atmosphere that makes you imagine what it was like for soldiers stationed there. Many of the old facilities and spaces are still preserved, including command posts, ammunition depots, and air-raid shelters. Every corner seems to whisper the stories of the past. Walking inside, you get a sense of traveling through time. Although the space is not very large, the layout is well-designed, and some walls still have military diagrams and information boards to read. This allows visitors to not only take a quick look but also understand the strategic importance of Penghu at the time. Stepping out of the bunker and back into the sunlight, you truly feel a sense of 'seeing the light of day' again. This kind of site, though not commercialized, is very profound and is perfect for those who love history and military culture to explore.
