Obihiro Racecourse in winter

Hokkaido is known as a major producer of racehorses, and there are several racecourses within the prefecture. Among them, Obihiro Racecourse is where a unique type of horse race is held. While regular horse races use a track-shaped course, this one has a straight course with two humps. The horses that run on it are Ban'ei horses, which are different from thoroughbreds and pull sleds.
