Explore Nottingham city on foot.

Start your walk from Old Market Square, pass Nottingham Council House, look up at the beautiful architecture of the Houses of Parliament and listen to the deepest bells in the UK. Pass Victoria Street and enter Saint Mary's Rest Garden. This used to be a cemetery, but was later converted into a small garden. Now there are many tombstones from more than two hundred years ago placed in the park, quietly showing the existence of the people who are sleeping in the park. Then enter The Lace Market. This is Nottingham's former industrial heritage site, and now it is home to bars and restaurants. After passing the National Ice Centre, you will arrive at St. Mary's Church, which is known as one of the most beautiful churches in Nottingham and has a rich history. Next, buy a ticket to enter the National Justice Museum. Learn about crime and punishment in Nottingham in this well-preserved courthouse, which features Georgian cells and medieval dungeons, as well as mock court trials scheduled every day. Walk from the Museum of Justice to the Olde Trip to Jerusalem, one of Britain’s oldest and most iconic pubs, steeped in folklore and history. Because of time constraints, I didn't go in and order a beer and sit for a while. We walked towards Nottingham Castle again and saw the Robin Hood Statue, a local legend with a lot of fact and fiction. The walk ends with a look at the history of Nottingham Castle, which is crucial to the history of the British monarchy and was also the site of rebellion and murder!
