Visit Fort San Domingo in Tamsui

With over 300 years of history, Fort San Domingo is undoubtedly the most dazzling historical building in Tamsui. In 1629, the Spanish invaded Tamsui and built Fort San Domingo to consolidate their colonial enterprise in northern Taiwan. In 1642, the Dutch expelled the Spanish and rebuilt the fort on the original site, naming it Fort San Domingo. The name 'Fort San Domingo' has been used ever since. In 1867, the British leased the fort, extensively renovated it, and built the British Consulate on the east side as a residence.
