Five Wild Black Swans Spotted at Xuanwu Lake

Recently, five "wild" black swans were seen circling in formation above the Southwest Lake area of Xuanwu Lake, their elegant posture attracting everyone's attention. These five black swans are not individuals originally raised by the scenic area but have migrated from elsewhere. It is speculated that Xuanwu Lake's excellent water quality and suitable ecological environment attracted them. However, black swans are not native species; they are large and have no natural predators. A long-term stay could lead to competition for resources with native birds, affecting the ecological balance. The scenic area has strengthened dynamic monitoring and will intervene scientifically when appropriate. Xuanwu Lake Scenic Area originally had ornamental black swans, with North Lake Yellow Duck Island, Southwest Lake Swan Island, and the Magpie Bridge Fish Viewing Area being their regular activity zones. In 2020, the scenic area introduced six black swans, which have now formed a stable population. When tourists go boating, they can often spot black swans swimming and preening their feathers around North Lake Yellow Duck Island and Southwest Lake Swan Island.
