Special Exhibition of World Ceramics at Nanjing Museum

The Nanjing Museum has had excellent special exhibitions in recent years. This theme is also wonderful. I took too many photos, but I'll first share some ceramics. Through these ceramics, we can see Ming Dynasty China's interaction with the world. The museum's collection indeed has some treasures. Blue and white porcelains are abundant, and all in excellent condition, with pieces from the Hongwu, Yongle, and Xuande periods. Image 2: Ming Yongle period blue and white three-legged censer with longevity mountain and blessed sea pattern. The main decorative pattern on the body features mountains of longevity and blessed seas, showing grand momentum. From Nanjing Museum collection; Image 3: Ming Yongle period blue and white underglaze red bowl with sea creatures pattern on high foot, decorated with sea water and auspicious creatures, from Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum collection; Image 4: Ming Yongle period white glazed monk's cap ewer with incised lotus and eight auspicious symbols, a special form of Jingdezhen official kiln porcelain. Called monk's cap ewer by Qing people but tea pot by Ming people, from Nanjing Museum collection; Image 5: Ming Yongle period blue and white flat vase with cloud and dragon pattern, from Nanjing Museum collection; Image 6: Ming Hongwu period underglaze red meiping vase with Three Friends of Winter pattern. Besides dragon patterns, official kiln porcelain of the Hongwu period often featured floral and plant decorations, from Nanjing Museum collection; Image 7: Ming Chongzhen period blue and white bowl with Journey to the West scenes, traditional blue and white craftsmanship depicting Xuanzang's westward journey, with Tang Monk and disciples' pilgrimage scenes on the bowl body, showing Ming Dynasty's embrace and recreation of foreign culture through the collision of foreign themes and local techniques, from Nanjing Museum collection; Image 8: Goryeo celadon spring bottle with inlaid floral pattern, from Nanjing Museum collection; Image 9: German Brunswick blue and white and yellow porcelain plate with scholar pattern, from Victoria and Albert Museum, UK.
