[Mountain Castle] Naegi Castle - A stroll through history

Naegi Castle is located on top of a mountain in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, and is the remains of a castle that has been selected as one of the 100 Greatest Castles in Japan and one of the Top 10 Mountain Castles (in some cases, number one). During the Edo period, a lord with a fief of 10,000 koku or more was called a daimyo (about 300 families), and the condition for owning a castle was 30,000 koku or more (about half), and the Naegi Domain was a domain that was specially allowed to own a castle, even though it only had 10,500 koku. At the site of Sannomaru at the entrance to the castle, the foundation stones of the Oyagura remains. (The castle gate is on display at the museum.) There is a difference in elevation of about 50m from here to the top of the mountain where the main castle is, making it an extremely difficult task to take. There are two large rocks in the main castle at the top of the mountain, and it is said that there was a three-story castle tower on top of them. Today, the second floor is an observation deck from which you can see the beautiful flow of the Nakatsugawa River. (A steel bridge for the Linear Shinkansen is being built directly below, so will we be able to see the Linear Shinkansen in 10 years?) When I hear the word "mountain castle," I imagine a temporary castle inhabited by bandits during the Warring States period, but I was surprised to learn that it had a history of over 300 years as the center of a feudal domain. Now it's just stone walls, so opinions may vary, but I think it's great for walking around and feeling the history. I was very satisfied. Name: Naegi Castle Address: Naegi, Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture Admission fee: Free Opening hours: 24 hours (I don't think there are any lights at night) Sightseeing time: About 1 hour including the museum Museum: Naegi Toyama Museum Price: 330 yen (200 yen discount ticket for parking) Opening hours: 9:30-17:00 Parking: Available at the castle entrance and the museum 500 yen for 1 hour, 100 yen for every 10 minutes thereafter The museum and the entrance are about 200m apart, but the difference in elevation is about 30m. After that, it's about 50m further to the main castle. It's good exercise no matter where you start. I don't think wheelchairs are allowed to go to the main castle. #NaegiCastle#Nakatsugawa#Gifu#MountainCastle#100FamousCastle#NaegiToyamaMuseum#Museum#Daimyō#LinearShinkansen
