According to the shrine's legend, when Emperor Yamato Takeru was subjugating the Kumaso, he climbed onto Ukishima and prayed for victory. When the shrine was under construction in 1714, a stone coffin was unearthed from the ground, and a bell, armor, sword, and other items were discovered. The bottom stone of the stone coffin is still within the grounds.
