A visit to Portuguese Settlement, Melaka

#mymymemories Portuguese Settlement, a renowned tourist attraction in Ujong Pasir, Melaka. It's overwhelming during the Christmas festive season. Used to be a fishing village and serves as home for the Kristang people, they are the descendants of intermarriage among the Portuguese and Malaccan decent, originating from the time of the colonial period, and the villagers speak Kristang language(Malay Portuguese). There is a 8-metre 'Christ the Redeemer' replica statue standing in front of at the Portuguese Square. In addition, a little Portuguese Heritage Gallery housed in a remaining Kristang's traditional house recently, showcases the history of the Portuguese Settlement.
