La Vallée de Ferney - Beautiful walk in this valley

#hellohalloween #thingstodo #familytravel What a story, apparently the government had planned to drive a new motorway through the area and then they found specimens of trees and plants that had thought to have gone extinct. Luckily, they saw sense and instead of a motorway we now have the opportunity to enjoy the local scenery, wildlife, woodlands and of course mosquitoes. We had a guided walk through the valley with a registered guide, Olivier, who was very knowledgeable, informative, caring and patient (we’re a lot younger than him). We started from the visitor centre and had a short bumpy but enjoyable drive up to the start of the trail and after visiting the tortoises and the pink pigeon aviary we had a leisurely walk initially through relatively open countryside before entering the special area where Olivier pointed out the thought to be extinct plants, the other indigenous plants and the invasive non indigenous plants. The area is famous for the work done in saving the Mauritius Kestrel and we were lucky enough to have four sightings (two of two separate birds) which put the icing on the cake. Well done to the government of Mauritius for your ecological support, well done to the Kestrel for surviving and many thanks to Olivier for making it a great experience.
